Genesis

And there became a famine upon the land, separate from the former famine, which was in the time of Abraám. And Isaák went to Abimelech, king of the Phylistieim, to Gerara.

And [the] lord appeared to him, and said: "Go not down into Aigyptos, but dwell in the land whichever I should tell you.

And sojourn in this land. And I will be with you. And I will bless you, for I will give all this land to you and your seed. And I will establish my oath which I swore to your father Abraám.

And I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven. And I will give [to] your seed all this land. And all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in your seed,

because your father Abraám obeyed my voice, and guarded my orders, and my commandments, and my ordinances, and my laws."

And Isaák dwelt in Gerara.

And the men of the place asked concerning his wife Rebekka. And he said: "She is my sister", for he feared to say: 'She is my wife', lest at any time the men of the place should kill him on account of Rebekka, for her appearance was beautiful.

And he became long-lived there. And Abimelech, the king of Gerara, leaned over through the window, [and] saw Isaák playing with his wife Rebekka.

And Abimelech called Isaák, and said to him: "So is she indeed your wife? Why [is it] that you said: 'She is my sister'?" And Isaák said to him: "I said [it] for lest at any time I might die on her account."

And Abimelech said to him: "Why did you do this to us? [It is a] small [thing] if someone of my kind went to bed with your wife, and you brought upon us [a sin of] ignorance."

And Abimelech charged all his people, saying: "Any [one] touching this human and his wife will be liable unto death."

And Isaák sowed in that land. And he found in that year barley bearing hundred [-fold]. And [the] lord blessed him.

And the human was exalted, and was advancing greatly, until of which [time] he became exceedingly great.

And there became to him cattle of sheep, and cattle of oxen, and many cultivated fields. And the Phylistieim envied him.

And all the wells which the servants of his father had dug in the time of his father, the Phylistieim obstructed them, and filled them [with] earth.

And Abimelech said to Isaák: "Go forth away from us, for you became exceedingly mightier than we."

And Isaák went forth from there. And he lodged in the ravine of Gerara, and dwelt there.

And Isaák dug again the wells of water, which the servants of his father Abraám had dug, and the Phylistieim had obstructed after the dying of his father Abraám. And he named them names according to the names which his father named [them].

And the servants of Isaák dug in the ravine of Gerara, and they found there [a] well [of] living water.

And the shepherds of Gerara fought with the shepherds of Isaák, asserting the water to be theirs. And they called the name of the well injustice, for they wronged him.

And departing from there, he dug another well. And they strove also for that. And he named the name of it enmity.

And he departed from there and dug another well. And they did not strive about that. And he named the name of it expanse, saying: "Because now [the] lord widened us, and caused us to grow us upon the earth."

And he went up from there to the well of the oath.

And [the] lord appeared to him in that night, and said: "I am the Theos of your father Abraám. Do not fear, for I am with you. And I will bless you, and I will multiply your seed through your father Abraám."

And he built there an altar, and called upon the name of [the] lord. And he pitched there his tent. And there the servants of Isaák dug a well in the ravine of Gerara.

And Abimelech went to him from Gerara, and so did his groomsman Ochozath, and Phichol, the commander-in-chief of his army.

And Isaák said to them: "Why did you come to me, for you detested me, and you sent me away from you?"

And they said: "Seeing, we have seen that [the] lord was with you. And we said: 'Let there become an oath between us and between you.' And we will make a covenant with you:

You shall not do evil with us, in so far as we did not abhor you, and which manner we treated you well, and sent you out in peace. And now, you are blessed by [the] lord."

And he made a banquet for them. And they ate and drank.

And rising up in the morning, each swore by an oath to his neighbor. And Isaák sent them forth, and they moved away from him with safety.

And it came to pass in that day, [that] the servants of Isaák coming and reported to him concerning the well which they dug. And they said: "We did not find water."

And he called it oath. On account of this he called [the] name [of] that city well of oath, unto today's day.

And Esau was forty years [old], and he took [to] wife Ioudith, the daughter of Beoch, the Chettaion, and Basemath, daughter of Elon the Chettaion.

And they were striving [with] Isaák and Rebekka.
