Genesis

And Abraám was [an] elder, advancing of days. And [the] lord blessed Abraám over against [it] all.

And Abraám said [to] his servant, to the elder of his house, to the one in charge of all his [things]: "Put your hand under my thigh,

and I will adjure you [by the] lord, the Theos of the heaven, and the Theos of the earth, that you take not a wife [to] my son Isaák from the daughters of the Chananaion, with whom I dwell, in the midst of them.

But you shall go instead to my land, of which I was, and into my tribe. And you shall take from thence a wife [to] my son Isaák."

And the servant said to him: "If at any time the woman does not want to go with me back into this land, shall I return your son into the land from where you came forth from there?"

And Abraám said to him: "Pay yourself attention [that you] not return my son there.

[The] lord, the Theos of [the] heaven, and the Theos of the earth, who took me from out of my father's house, and from out of the land of which I was born, who spoke to me, and who swore by an oath to me, saying: 'I will give this land to you and your seed.' He will send his messenger in front of you. And you shall take a wife [to] my son from there.

And if the woman should not want to go with you into this land, you will be clean from this oath. Only return not my son there."

And the servant put his hand under the thigh of his lord Abraám. And swore by an oath to him concerning this saying.

And the servant took ten camels from the camels of his lord, and from all the good [things] of his lord with himself. And rising up, he went into Mesopotamia, into the city of Nachor.

And he rested the camels outside the city by the well of the water towards late [in the day], when the [young women] came forth drawing water.

And he said: "Lord, the Theos of my lord Abraám, prosper my way before me to day, and perform mercy with my lord Abraám.

Behold: I stand upon the spring of water, and the daughters of the humans dwelling in the city come forth to draw water.

And it shall be the virgin whoever I should have said: 'Incline your water-pot, that I might drink'. And she shall say: 'You drink, and I will give your camels to drink, until whenever they cease to drink'. This one you prepared for your girl to Isaák. And in this I will know that you executed mercy with my lord Abraám."

And it came to pass before completing his speaking in his mind, that behold: Rebekka came forth, the [one] born to Bathouél, [the] son of Melcha, the wife of Nachor, and brother of Abraám, having a water-pot upon her shoulders.

And the virgin was exceedingly good in appearance. She was a virgin: no man knew her. And coming upon the spring, she filled her water-pot, and ascended.

And the servant ran to meet with her, and said: "Give me a little water to drink from out of your water-pot."

And she said: "Drink, lord." And she hastened, and lowered the water-pot upon her arm, and gave him to drink, until he ceased drinking.

And she said: "I will also draw water for your camels, until whenever all should have drunk."

And she hastened, and emptied the water-pot into the channel, and ran yet [again] upon the well to draw water. And she drew water for all the camels.

And the human observed her, and remained silent to know if [the] lord prospered his way or not.

And it came to pass when all the camels ceased drinking, [that] the human took golden earrings, [each worth] up to a drachma scale-weight, and two bracelets, [and put them] on her hands: ten golden [shekels] [being] their scale-weight.

And he asked her, and said: "Whose daughter are you? Announce to me if there is place for us to lodge by your father."

And she said to him: "I am [the] daughter of Bathouél, the [son] of Melcha, whom she bore to Nachor."

And she said to him: "Also [there is] much straw and fodder, and place to lodge."

And the human being well-pleased did obeisance the lord, and said:

"Blessed be [the] lord, the Theos of my lord Abraám, who abandoned not righteousness and truth from my lord. [The] lord indeed prospered me into [the] house of the brother of my lord."

And running, the maidservant announced into the house to her mother according to these words.

And to Rebekka, there was a brother whose name [was] Laban. And Laban ran to the human, outside upon the spring.

And it came to pass when he saw the earrings, and the bracelets upon the hands of his sister, and when he heard the words of his sister Rebekka, saying: "So spoke the human to me", that he went to the human, standing himself upon the camels upon the spring.

And he said to him: "Come, enter, [you] blessed of [the] lord. Why stand outside? For I prepared the house and a place for the camels."

And the human entered into the house, and unharnessed the camels, and gave straw and fodder to the camels, and water for his feet, and for the feet of the men [being] with him.

And he placed before them bread loaves to eat. And he said: No way will I eat until speaking my words." And he said: "Speak."

And he said: "I am a servant of Abraám.

And [the] lord has blessed my lord exceedingly. And he was raised up high. And he gave to him sheep, and calves, and silver, and pieces of gold, and manservants, and maidservants, camels, and donkeys.

And Sarra, the wife of my lord, bore one son to my lord after his growing old. And he gave to him as much as was his.

And my lord made me swear, saying: 'You shall not take a wife to my son from the daughters of the Chananaion, among whom I sojourn in their land.

But you should go into the house of my father, and into my tribe, and you shall take a wife to my son.'

And I said [to] my lord: 'Perhaps the woman will not go with me.'

And he said to me: '[The] lord, the Theos to whom I was found well-pleasing before him, him will send out his messenger with you, and prosper your way. And you will take a wife to my son from out of my tribe, and from out of the house of my father.

Then you will be guiltless from my curse. For whenever you should come to my tribe, and they should not give her to you, then you will be guiltless away from my oath.'

And coming today upon the spring, I said: 'Lord, the Theos of my lord Abraám, if you prosper my way in which I now go by it,

behold: I stand upon the spring of water, and the daughters of the humans of the city come forth to draw water. And it will be the virgin to whomever I should say: 'Give me a little water to drink from out of your water-pot',

and she should say to me: 'You drink, and I will draw water to your camels'. This [shall be] the wife whom [the] lord prepared for his own attendant Isaák. And in this you will know that you have done mercy [to] my lord Abraám.

And it came to pass before completing my speaking in my mind, [that] straightway Rebekka came forth, having the water-pot upon her shoulders. And she went down upon the spring, and drew water. And I said to her: 'Give me to drink.'

And she hastened and to lower the water-pot upon her arm from herself, and said: 'You drink, and I will give your camels to drink.' And I drank, and she gave the camels to drink.

And I asked her, and said: 'Whose daughter are you?' And she said: 'I am [the] daughter of Bathouél, [the] son of Nachor, whom Melcha bore to him.' And I put on her the earrings, and the bracelets around her hands.

And being well-pleased, I did obeisance to the lord. And I blessed the lord, the Theos of my lord Abraám, who prospered me in [the] way of truth, to take the daughter of the brother of my lord to his son.

If then you do mercy and righteousness towards my lord, announce to me that I might turn into [the] right or left."

And answering Laban and Bathouél said: "This matter came forth from [the] lord. We will not be able to contradict bad or good.

Behold: Rebekka [is] before you. In taking her, run. And let her be wife to the son of your lord, as the lord spoke."

And it came to pass when the servant of Abraám heard these words, [that] he did obeisance upon the ground to the lord.

And the servant brought forth equipment made of silver and gold. And he gave clothing to Rebekka. And he gave gifts to her brother, and to her mother.

And they ate and drank. And he and the men being with him went to sleep. And rising up [in the] morning, he said: "Send me forth, that I may go forth to my lord."

And her brothers and mother said: "Let the virgin remain with us about ten days. And after this, she shall go forth."

But he said to them: "Do not hold me, for [the] lord prospered my way. Send me forth, that I may go forth to my lord."

And they said: "We should call the maidservant, and we should ask her mouth."

And they called Rebekka, and said to her: "Will you go with this human?" And she said: "I will go."

And they sent forth their sister Rebekka, and her goods, and the servant of Abraám, and the [ones] with him.

And they blessed Rebekka, and said to her: "You are our sister. Become into a thousand myriads, and let your seed inherit the cities of [your] adversary."

And rising up, Rebekka and her handmaidens mounted upon the camels, and they went with the human. And taking the girl Rebekka, he went forth.

And Isaák was traveling through the desolate by the well of the vision. And he dwelt in the land towards [the] south.

And Isaák went forth into the plain towards evening to meditate. And looking up with his eyes, he saw camels coming.

And Rebekka looking up with her eyes, saw Isaák. And she leaped down from the camel.

And she said to the servant: "Who is that human going in the plain to meet us?" And the servant said: "This [is] my lord." And she, having taken the lightweight covering, put it on.

And the servant related to Isaák all the words he did.

And Isaák entered into the house of his mother, and took Rebekka. And she became his wife. And he loved her. And Isaák was comforted concerning [the death of] his mother Sarra.
