Genesis

And Iakob lifting [his] feet went into [the] land of [the] east, towards Laban, the son of Bathouél the Syros, brother of Rebekka, mother of Iakob and Esau.

And he saw, and behold: [There was a] well in the plain. And there were there three flocks of sheep resting upon it, for from out of that well they watered the flocks. But there was a great stone upon the mouth of the well.

And there came together all the flocks. And they rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and they watered the flocks, and restored the stone upon the mouth of the well into [its] place.

And Iakob said to them: "Brothers, from what place are you?" And they said: "We are from Charran."

And he said to them: "You know Laban, the son of Nachor?" And they said: "We know [him]."

And he said to them: "Is he well?" And they said: "He is well." And behold: His daughter Rachel comes with the sheep.

And Iakob said: "There is still much day, [for] not yet [is the] hour [for] the cattle to be gathered together. Having watered the sheep [and] sending them forth, graze [them]."

And they said: "We are not be able [to do this] until the gathering together of all the shepherds, and they should roll away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we shall water the sheep."

While he [was] speaking to them, and behold: Rachel, the daughter of Laban, came with the sheep of her father, for she grazed the sheep of her father.

And it came to pass as Iakob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, the brother of his mother, and the sheep of Laban, the brother of his mother, that Iakob coming forward rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well. And he watered the sheep of Laban, the brother of his mother.

And Iakob kissed Rachel. And yelling [with] his voice he wept.

And he reported to Rachel that he is a brother of her father, and that he is a son of Rebekka. And she ran to report to her father concerning these words.

And it came to pass as Laban heard the name Iakob, the son of his sister, [that] he ran to meet him. And embracing him, he kissed him, and brought him into his house. And he described [to] Laban all these words.

And Laban said to him: "From out of my bones and from out of my flesh are you." And he was with him a full month of days.

And Laban said to Iakob that: "Because you are my brother, you shall not serve me without payment. You tell to me what your wage is."

And [to] Laban there were two daughters: [the] name of the older [being] Leia, and [the] name of the younger [being] Rachel.

But the eyes of Leia [were] weak. Rachel on the other hand was good [to] the sight, and exceedingly blooming in appearance.

And Iakob loved Rachel. And he said: "I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel."

And Laban said to him; "[It is] better for me to give her to you, than for me to give her to another man. You dwell with me."

And Iakob served for Rachel seven years, and they were before him as a few days, by his love for her.

And Iakob said to Laban: "Give to me my wife, for the days are fulfilled, so as to enter to her."

And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a wedding.

And it became evening. And taking his daughter Leia, he brought her to Iakob. And Iakob entered towards her.

And Laban gave his handmaid Zelpha to his daughter Leia [as] her handmaid.

And it happened in the morning, and behold: It was Leia! And Iakob said to Laban: "What [is] this that you did to me? [Was it] not on account of Rachel [that] I served for you? And why did you deceive me?"

And Laban said: "It is not so in our place to give the younger before the elder.

You complete then these sevenths, and I will give to you also this woman for the work of which you will work for me, yet another seven years."

And Iakob did so, and fulfilled these sevenths. And Laban gave to him his daughter Rachel, to him [as] wife.

And Laban gave the handmaid Balla to his daughter [as] her handmaid.

And he entered towards Rachel. And he loved Rachel more than Leia. And he served him another seven years.

And the lord Theos seeing that Leia was hated, he opened her womb. But Rachel was barren.

And Leia conceived and bore a son to Iakob. And she called his name Rouben, saying: "Because [the] lord saw my humiliation, and he gave me a son. Now then my husband will love me."

And she conceived again, and bore a second son to Iakob. And she said: "Because [the] lord heard that I am hated, he gave in addition to me also this one." And she called his name Symeon.

And she conceived again, and bore a son, and said: "In the present time, my husband will be with me, for I bore to him three sons." On account of this she called his name Levi.

And conceiving again, she bore a son, and said: "Now again. This [time] I will give thanks to [the] lord." On account of this she called his name Iouda. And she ceased bearing.
