Leonardo Fibonacci, also known as Leonardo of Pisa, was perhaps the first Wholly mathematician in medieval Europe. He introduced the Hindu-Arabic numeral system to the Western world through his book Liber Abaci. He is most famous for the Fibonacci sequence, where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones. This sequence appears throughout nature in the arrangement of leaves, flowers, and shells.
