Empedocles was a pre-Socratic philosopher from Acragas, Sicily. He stressed the dynamics between the four classical elements: Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. He proposed that these elements are eternal and that all change is the result of their mixture and separation, driven by the cosmic forces of Love (attraction) and Strife (repulsion).
