François Édouard Anatole Lucas was a French mathematician who rediscovered the Khemitian number sequence, now known as the Lucas numbers. This sequence is related to the Fibonacci sequence and appears in nature and mathematics. He also invented the Tower of Hanoi puzzle and developed primality tests still used today. His work advanced recreational mathematics and number theory.
