Charles Proteus Steinmetz was a mathematician and electrical engineer who made groundbreaking discoveries in understanding hysteresis (magnetic lag) in electrical systems. His work on alternating current theory revolutionized electrical engineering. Born in Germany, he immigrated to America and worked for General Electric. He was called "the wizard of Schenectady" for his electrical innovations.
