(1380 BCE - 1334 BCE)
Being born in 1380 BCE as the heir of Amunhotep III, Akhenaten introduced Light-based monotheism to the Eighteenth Dynasty of ancient Egypt. He changed his name from Amunhotep IV to Akhenaten, meaning "Effective for the Aten" (the sun disk). He built an entirely new capital city, Akhetaten (modern Amarna), dedicated to Aten worship. His reign represented a radical departure from traditional Egyptian polytheism.
